The most creative contributions to this world are usually made by people who have aligned their work with their deepest values and true intentions. I have worked with Maia Duerr in many contexts and have witnessed her commitment to cultivating this awareness and finding skillful ways to teach it to others.

This is not just another book on mindfulness—it could change every working day of your life.

— Mirabai Bush, co-author of Walking Each Other Home and co-founder of The Center for Contemplative Mind in Society

Today is my book’s first birthday! Work That Matters has been in the world for one year, and what a year it’s been.

I’ve absolutely loved doing in-person book events and connecting with so many of you.

  • Things started off with January readings at The Ark in Santa Fe and Bookworks in Albuquerque.
  • Later in the winter I traveled to California and gave readings at Book Passage Bookstore & Cafe in Corte Madera, Santa Cruz Zen Center, and the Center for Spiritual Awakening in Pacific Grove.
  • In March, I set off for a trip to the Windy City and gave a dharma talk and workshop at Zen Life and Meditation Center of Chicago.
  • Finally in November, a whirlwind tour of New England with readings at One Roof Holistic Health Center in Saratoga Springs, NY; Bread Loaf Mountain Zen Community in Cornwall, VT; Insight Meditation Center of Pioneer Valley in Easthampton, MA; and The Lotus House at Wesleyan University in Connecticut.

Whew!

All that plus a virtual tour comprised of 22 radio interviews across the U.S. (listen here to one of my favorites).

Thousands of copies of the book sold and gifted… two rounds of the online course offered (and just launched the self-study version)… and most importantly countless hearts touched.

I’ve so much enjoyed meeting many of you during this past year and hearing about your journey to create work that matters.

I am deeply grateful to Parallax Press for the chance to share this book with readers who are yearning to find more fulfillment in their work, and to do so in a way that is based in mindful awareness.

And I am so thankful to YOU for being a supporter of the book from early on. Every one of you who bought a copy of Work That Matters, told friends about it, wrote reviews for Amazon and Goodreads, and attended readings have helped to make this first year a successful one.

What’s Next?

This coming year, I’ll be focusing on adding a new skillset to my coaching practice as I receive training in using the VIA Survey of Character Strengths. Those of you who do individual coaching with me will benefit from the insights of this innovative assessment tool and learn how you can apply them to your career journey.

I also plan to launch a podcast series later in 2019 to share inspiring stories about people who have created work that matters. Stay tuned!

If I could have one wish for the new year it would be for the reach of the book to extend a little further into the world. I would love to offer more Work That Matters in-person workshops and to support more people to create a livelihood that they deeply care about, work that originates from their Core Intention. I would love to see Work That Matters featured in magazines like Mindful and Spirituality & Health.

How Can I Support You?

Do you have specific questions that have been coming up as you read the book and work through the exercises and practices? Are there places where you’re feeling stuck? Do you have something you’ve learned or accomplished in relation to your livelihood this past year that you’d like to celebrate?

I’d love to hear from you. Please take this short five-question survey….

Thank you again for being part of this amazing year. I look forward to supporting you in 2019!

Blessings,
Maia
